Whilst commuters get agitated by the insufferable traffic conditions prevailing over Lahore, there literally seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.
According to a private TV channel, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is expected to announce the formal launching date of the Metro Bus Service in a high profile meeting scheduled for today.
Hamza Shahbaz, the CM’s son earlier held a meeting of the elected representatives and officials related to the project to review issues and brief CM about the progress in today’s meeting.
The meeting decided to put Jan 27th as the final date of the Metro Bus launch before the CM. The rather optimistic date comes as a surprise since the mammoth project looks quite far from completion. Hamza claims although that almost 90percent of the work has been done.
It is further planned that the road will be protected by a private security company ‘the Security Company 2000’ that would deploy personnel at various points along with 120 personnel from the Mujahid Squad.
Reports claim that the City Traffic Police (CTP) has already launched a project that guides commuters about the traffic on different routes via phone messages.
The 27 km long Metro Bus project being completed in just 11 months, has cost more than Rs30 billion to date yet will run free buses for the first two weeks.
