People across Sindh province continued to suffer on Tuesday due to closure of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and low pressure of gas for domestic consumers.
According to details, commuters and motorists had to face difficulties as CNG stations in Sindh including Karachi were closed from 8:00 am on Tuesday to 8:00 am on Thursday for 48 hours.
The spokesman of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) said that the decision had been taken due to shortage of gas being supplied from different gas fields. The existing problem had been further aggravated by low gas pressure at domestic consumer level, he added.
Furthermore, the spokesman warned that special vigilance teams would monitor the situation to ensure implementation of the decision and any gas station which violated the schedule would be closed for additional 24 hours.
Meanwhile, a large number of people including public servants, employees of private offices, students and labourers were seen standing on various city bus stops while waiting for public transport to come along, but public transportation remained very thin on city roads due to unavailability of CNG.
However, despite suspension of gas supply to CNG stations, the citizens in various districts of Sindh continued to suffer due to low pressure of gas experienced by the domestic consumers. Besides, unscheduled and prolonged load shedding of electricity in the prevailing intense cold wave in the country had irked the citizens.
The consumers urged the provincial government to at least ensure smooth gas supply during CNG closure days and also demanded from the authorities concerned to mend the power supply situation.
