Senate Chairman Nayyer Hussain Bokhari on Tuesday directed the city administration to restore the annual Urs of Bari Imam that had been banned for the last four years due to security reasons.
Chairing a meeting of the Bari Imam Shrine Development Committee, the chairman said the Urs will be held at any cost in April, as the district administration was responsible for ensuring the security of devotees. He expressed dissatisfaction over the snail pace of work on the construction of the shrine and said the committee would examine development work on January 21, and take all decisions during the visit.
Bokhari said that annual Urs of other saints were being held regularly and Bari Imam’s Urs should take place in the same spirit. He directed the preservation of a banyan tree in the shrine and the restoration of water springs, as devotees had an attachment with them.
The chairman directed the reopening of the shrine of Sakhi Mehmood Badshah after the building’s renovation.
The consultant for the Bari Imam project said around 84 percent of development work had been completed and decoration work was underway.
