The LUMS Business Initiative’13 (LBI) on Monday concluded its third day with a performance by popular musical band Strings. With a theme of “Greenopreneurship”, the LBI aims to encourage sustainable business activity, endorse eco-conscious decisions and create awareness of the consequences that poor business procedures have on the environment we live in. Students organising the event comprise members of the Managerial Society of LUMS (MSL), which received first prize at the Young Entrepreneur Business Plan Competition last year. The MSL is a valuable resource for students who want to attain proficiency in business management, build connections in the corporate world, and express their creativity through innovative ideas.
The third day of the event was filled with activities. After the competitions of the first two days had been scored and the final marks for all the teams had been submitted by the judges, the participants gathered to see who had scored the winning score in the conference. The final rounds of all four business events commenced and the teams competed to earn to their final points.
The participants started off their day with the final Round of the Social Innovation and Sustainability competition, which involved the participants taking up a legitimate, persisting social problem and develop a case study of sorts concerning ways to tackle the problem. The participants sought out solutions to social problems and presented them to the judges. In the feedback the judges gave the organisers, they mentioned that they were impressed with the ideas some of the teams had come up with. The short-listed teams from the previous competitions then competed in the final rounds of the Idea Junction, the Brand Rush and the Plug-It-In competitions until late into the evening.
After three strenuous days of working, competing and sweating, the participants ended their experience of the LBI in the best possible way. Dressed up in the dark, magnificent colors of maroon, purple, brown and black, the participants attended the medieval-themed Formal Dinner and Closing Ceremony. The formal dinner ended the fun and competition by transporting its participants to the Middle Ages.
