Shahzaib’s father to withdraw case for Rs250 million

A deal has been finalised between the Jatoi and Talpur families and father of Shahzaib Khan, the boy allegedly killed in Karachi DHA Phase-V by Shahrukh Jatoi and Nawab Siraj Talpur and their guards on December 25, Pakistan Today learnt on Sunday.
The boy’s father, Aurangzaib, has reportedly agreed to withdraw the cases for Rs 250 million.
Investigation into the Shahzaib murder case concluded with a deal with Jatois, Talpurs and Aurangzaib, a serving deputy superintendent of Sindh Police.
According to this deal, the Jatoi and Talpur families will pay Rs 250 million to the deceased’s father as compensation money and in exchange Shahzaib’s father would withdraw the case, sources privy to the developments told Pakistan Today.
A high-ranked police officer, who is among the investigators, said on condition of anonymity that Shahzaib’s father had agreed to withdraw the murder case for a sum of Rs 250 million.
The Jatois and Talpurs were under pressure after arrest of Nawab Siraj Talpur, a co-accused in the Shahzaib murder case, from Moro on Saturday.
“The families used their political circle to approach DSP Aurangzaib and made him agree to withdraw the case for the stated money,” official said.
He claimed that a high-ranking officer of Sindh Police played a pivotal role for the deal to save Sindh Inspector General (IG) Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari from any action by the Supreme Court (SC).
“Shahrukh Jatoi, the main accused in Shahzaib murder case, would arrive in Karachi today (Monday) and surrender before the law enforcement agencies,” he claimed, adding that Shahzaib’s father would then withdraw the case.
After the deal, Sindh IGP Fayyaz Leghari has reportedly taken a sigh of relief and left for Islamabad to appear before the three-member SC bench, which took suo motu notice of the murder on January 1 and ordered the Sindh IGP to arrest the culprits within 24 hours.
“A well-known politician played a key role in this deal but I cannot disclose his name,” the source said.
A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken suo motu notice of the murder and ordered Sindh IGP and Advocate General to present a report before the bench on January 4.
On Friday, the chief justice ordered the IGP to arrest the culprits within 24 hours or appear before the court without uniform.
An official in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration Circle, who wished not to be named, told Pakistan Today that no record of Shahrukh Jatoi having flown aboard was available with the immigration office.
“With this disclosure, it is also confirmed that Shahrukh Jatoi was not hiding in the country,” he said, adding that it could not be ascertained so far where he had gone.
Talking to Pakistan Today, IGP Leghari said he had arrived in Islamabad to appear before the apex court. Asked about the deal, he said, “I am in Islamabad and cannot confirm the information.”
On the other hand, DSP Aurangzaib said he had had no meeting with the Jatoi or Talpur family.
He disconnected the phone when Pakistan Today enquired about the deal.
Earlier in the day, police had beefed up the first information report lodged into the Shahzaib murder case by adding some sections of the anti-terrorism act.

    • Just FYI, Jatoi family runs 7 TV channels in SINDH. they make roughly 250million a day or lot more from Lands and other businesses they run without paying any Tax in Pakistan.

    • Why r u worried about htis? Pakistan was created in the name of Islam. And Diyat is in Shariat Law. If you r against it, why dont you clearly say that Shariat Law is wrong and it allows culprits to murder people and escape by paying money. It means there r defects in Shariat Law.   7. as reported above, if the deal is true, in my opinion should be acceptable. the son is not coming back, this way at least the mourning family get some relief. not getting money, they will be total losers. now they could do some charitable work for the departed soul.
    the killer parts with huge sums of money. this case should be a huge lesson to them and others that should keep a future repeat (killing) of such from happening.
    my heart goes out to shahzaibs family.

    • If aurgnzeb and nabeel gabool is able to bring them in court of justice, I think it would be best charitable work for people of Karachi who are being killed like that on daily basis.
      Perhaps this case might be a milestone of providing resistance against regular target killings which are being don under influential people of Sindh.

      • first, i have right to have my own opinion. not asking anyone to agree with it. you got yours. its sensitive issue emotional too.
        played no part in the davis deal, not my business. the only thing is i have some outside exposure and i see things in broader scope. all governments, agencies, enterprises, individuals will do deals with bad guys. deals happen everywhere, in and out of courts – in all countries. things must come to end. we are living in this world where material counts. 250m is no small amount to part with. it should bring some consolation to the victims family.

        not long ago a young man hanging from 8th floor balcony fell to his death. he was there for good length of time with so many onlooker even media showed him hanging – how many stepped in to give help. who came forward to take responsibility. did we change after that. this wouldn't have happened in a civilized society. even a cat stuck up on a tree gets saved.

        target killing & other issues should not be attached directly to this murder. everyone and i mean everyone, needs to do a whole lot more to make this a better place to live, for ourselves and generations to come. why this poor family alone carry the burdon to right the system. they have done more than a fair share.

          Here you have given wrong example the hanging boy was not come in circle of cold blood murder but extreme human error from all side.As he bad luck who trapped him there.We have poor public service system here so one can account in this way but Shebzab's case comes in circle of brutality of ruling elite or superiority complex of spoiled broths of Pakistan,

  8. Before making any negative comments, let the true story coming out to know all the details about the compensation money and why it was offered and why it was accepted. We have seen such incident not long ago with Raymond Davis and US govt. doing the same.

    This is a bit different as this will somehow strenghthen the feudals and their Ayyash sons to do more of such heinous crimes with money in hand afterwards.

    Supreme court to please come out and have some legislation done on such matters.

      Indeed! Reminds me of another recent case: That of Shan Khusro, son of former Commissioner and Additional Federal Sectary Khusro Pervez who shot and killed his best friend Hamza Elahi at point blank range. Though still not out of the woods yet, he is enjoying VIP treatment in prison. But I am gonna bet sooner or later he will be freed either by the courts ("Oh it was an accident") or by paying some blood money or just using political/bureaucratic muscle….

  11. I am not an anuthority on Sharia Laws but as far as my understanding is concrened it is not binding on the victim's family to accept Diyat money. It is just an option which can be exercised. However I may be wrong. Whatever Sharia ordains us to do is always absolutely right.

If court orders life imprisonment for Jatois and Talpurs, then Shahzab's dad ll also suffer may be in 6 months time period! Jatois and Talpurs ll wait when the media diverts its attention to other issues! They ll probably shoot Shahzeb's dad similar to the way they did with Shahzeb. Best case scenario for Shahzeb's family is take the 250 million, charity half of it to Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital Karachi or any other charity venture in Karachi and get themselves business immigration for some western country and leave Pakistan at least for 5 years!! Sorry for being pessimistic, but thats the best Shahzeb's family should expect!

  47. I think its more of a pressure rather than a Qisas and Diyat. If he was to accept money, he would have done before even bringing back the murderer from UAE. There is something wrong here, it will be highly unlikely if a father and his family can ever let this go when there are hard evidence proven against the culprits.

    It is unlawful for a believer to kill a believer except if it happens by accident. And he who kills a believer accidentally must free one Muslim slave and pay Diyat to the heirs of the victim except if they forgive him. If the victim be a Muslim belonging to a people at enmity with you, the freeing of a Muslim slave is enough. But if the victim belongs to an ally, Diyat shall also be given to his heirs and a Muslim slave shall also have to be set free. He who does not have a slave, must fast two consecutive months. This is from Allah a way to repent from this sin: He is Wise, all-Knowing. (4:92-3)

The family's kids could kill an innocent man on the middle of the road who is to say that Shahzaib's sister and other members of his family are not being threatened.
