Two dead bodies were found from different areas of the city, while two people were gunned down by unidentified culprits in Karachi on Sunday.
The body of a young man, whose identity could not be ascertained, was found lying near garbage collection point of Kalri ground Lyari late Saturday night. The body had torture marks and a bullet hole in the head. The body was later shifted to the Civil Hospital for postmortem. In another incident, police said a 20-year-old youth named Zarib Khan s/o Abdul Jabbar was gunned down by unidentified culprits near garbage collection point in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13-D in the limits of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police Station. The body was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for postmortem. “He was a resident of Afghan Basti near Shorab Goth and his family was not interested in the case,” police officials said. Similarly, a 26-year-old man Muneeb Ahmad s/o Maqsood was gunned down by unidentified culprits near Moti mosque in Shah Faisal colony number 3. His body was also later shifted to the JPMC for postmortem. Meanwhile, 30-year-old Gulzar Hussain s/o Nazir Hussain was found dead from a house at Lyari Taiser Town. The dead body was shifted to ASH for postmortem, where doctors later said that the deceased had hanged himself.
Six persons injured in road mishaps: Six persons including a child and a woman were injured in different incidents of road accidents in Karachi on Sunday.
According to details, Abdul Qadir, a 25-year-old pedestrian, was injured when an unidentified car hit him near Mawach Goth. He was later shifted to the nearby Murshed Hospital for treatment.
In another incident, a labourer named Sajid fell down from a truck near Gazi Godown at Hawke’s Bay Road. He was later shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
Separately, a speeding van hit 40-year-old Naveeda, 60-year-old Muhammad Saeed and 7-year-old Umar near Power House stop in Federal B Area. The injured were later moved to the Sindh Government Hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old rickshaw driver named Naseer Alam s/o Mahmood Shah was injured when his vehicle overturned due to high speed in Orangi Town. He was shifted to Qatar Hospital to undergo medical treatment.
Two more infants fall prey to measles
Despite tall claims of the federal and provincial governments and health authorities, measles continued to take lives of infants as two more children died in different areas of the city mounting the death toll to a horrible number of 241 in the Sindh province. According to details, two children died of measles in Madaiji and Mian Sahab localities of Shikarpur where the toll has reached to 24. In Ghotki district, as many as 14 children have died of the epidemic so far. A special vaccination campaign was launched in various districts of Sindh a couple of days earlier to prevent the outbreak of measles epidemic but the crisis seems to be intensifying further. The campaign will last till January 15 during which children will be vaccinated against measles. In this regard, special camps have been set up at basic health centres and dispensaries. Karachi EDO Dr Imdadullah said that during the campaign 2.1 million children will be vaccinated in the city for which 534 teams have been posted in camps while 694 teams will work in outskirt areas of the city. Meanwhile, the masses across Sindh province have expressed grave concerns over response of federal, provincial governments and health authorities to take control over the dreadful disease. They urged for instant and solid steps to overcome the alarming situation.
