Eight prisoners released from Malir Jail

Malir District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Yameen accompanied by Additional District Judge Farzana Iqbal, visited Malir District Jail and ordered the release of eight prisoners who had completed their sentence but were still languishing there for not being able to pay the fine money. The judges were also accompanied by representatives of an NGO named Saiban, while Jail Superintendent Syed Nazir Hussain Shah, Deputy Superintendent Agha Zulfiqar, Assistant Superintendent Arshad Shah, Dr Kashif Iqbal Sheikh and others were also present on the occasion. The judges met the prisoners and enquired about the details of ongoing cases in various courts and while listening to their problems, assured them of speedy justice. On the occasion, a large number of prisoners presented applications for an early hearing of their cases while many submitted applications for review of the court decisions regarding their cases. During his visit, eight prisoners informed the judge that they had completed their sentence but were in jail because of their inability to pay the fine money. On hearing this, Saiban Chairman Haq Nawaz Akhtar paid the fine money and traveling expenses on behalf of the jailed men and secured the release of eight prisoners.
