The Supreme Court (SC) ordered Sindh police to arrest Sharukh Jatoi; the murderer of Shahzeb Khan by January 10 and remarked that an attempt had been made to sabotage the case by lodging a new FIR.
Heading the three member bench pertaining to the murder of 20 year old Shahzeb Khan, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the accused had fled the country after the crime. Sindh’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari also appeared before the court in uniform. The bench had ordered him to produce the culprits in the court today; however the IGP sought a 15 day extension in the deadline. The court decreed the IGP an additional 72 hours limit to arrest Shahrukh and adjourned the case till January 10.
Addressing Sindh Deputy Inspector General south Shahid Hayat, the CJ Chaudhry remarked, “if you or the IGP had suspended your own selves, then it would have been meritorious, but, only a sub-inspector was suspended.” The CJ asserted that the police do not garner details nor do they pursue criminals even if the crime is highlighted by media entities, adding that “if something is brought to light through media, the police fears influential people; though it is Allah Who decrees respect and disgrace and is the only One worthy to be feared”.
Earlier Sindh Advocate General Abdul Fatah Malik submitted a report at the SC that said that Sharukh had fled from Pakistan. Per details, Shahrukh traveled to Dubai using a fake boarding card and Dubai Consul General confirmed the absconder’s landing at Dubai Airport. Commenting on the report, the CJ remarked that “the prospects regarding the success of police action are extremely thin and we are saying the same in the light of our experience. You produced two different reports on Saturday and Sunday and the two reports claimed that Sharukh was in Pakistan and now you figured out that he slid out of Pakistan.”
The court was adjourned till January 10 after the IGP assured that attempts for Sharukh arrest were afoot and that he would be arrested soon.

  1. Reports of Shahzeb's father accepting Diyat (Blood Money) seem unreliable. In England the Crown Prosecution Service will continue to pursue charges to secure conviction. In case complainant files a retraction statement he is charged with wasting Police time which invites heavy punishment.
