Police busted 519 gangs and arrested 1, 483 alleged criminals besides recovering stolen items worth Rs 103 millions during 2012.
“Police also traced and arrested 1, 717 gangsters, 8, 177 proclaimed offenders and 1, 914 court absconders,” said a police spokesman on Sunday.
“About 8, 982 cases were registered against 4, 994 alleged criminals on having illegal weapons and 33 Kalashnikovs, 162 rifles, 283 guns, 19 carbine, 4, 269 pistols, 89 daggers and 27, 750 rounds of ammunition were recovered,” he said.
“About 6, 389 cases were registered against drug dealers and 6, 556 culprits were arrested. About 209 kilograms of heroine, 1, 560 kilograms of hashish, 29 kilograms of opium and 83, 755 bottles of liquor were recovered from the accused,” he said.
He said in a special campaign, 1681 cases were registered against gamblers, 6144 criminals arrested and Rs 8.8 million were recovered from them.
He said Lahore DIG Operations Rai Muhammad Tahir and SSP Operations Sohail Akhtar Sukhera had directed Lahore police to utilise all resources to curb crime in the city.
