At least 17 people were killed and several others injured in US drone strikes in South Waziristan Agency (SWA) on Sunday.
According to sources, four US drones fired 10 missiles at two compounds in different localities, including Bobar area of South Waziristan, home to militants of the Hakimullah Mehsud group of the Pakistani Taliban and the Haqqani network.
The compounds, which were completely destroyed, belonged to Qari Imran, a militant commander believed to be affiliated with the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group. He was said to be the target of the attacks.
As a result of the strikes, 17 people were killed while several others were left injured.
Foreign media agencies said the dead included Wali Muhammad, alias Toofan Mehsud, who was in charge of the Pakistani Taliban’s suiciders’ wing.
However, there was no official confirmation about the death of Wali Muhammad either from the government or from the Taliban.
The locals stayed away from rescue activities, as drones continued to fly over the agency for quite some time after the attacks, frightening the residents.
After a short period of calm, the US has restarted targeting militants through the unmanned planes and managed killing pro-government tribal leader Maulvi Nazeer in such an attack the other day. Drone attacks are deeply unpopular among the political leadership and the masses, who consider them a breach of the country’s sovereignty and stability of country. However, the Obama-led US administration believes the drone attacks are vital to cope with the menace of terrorism.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan strongly condemned the drone strikes in Waziristan on Sunday. In a statement, the PTI chief called upon the authorities to take the nation into confidence over the details and identify those killed in the strikes. Khan said drone attacks were a violation of international laws and also violated the country’s sovereignty. The PTI chief said the government had turned Pakistan into a banana republic and the US authorities were allowed to hit and kill any civilian at will inside the Pakistani territory. He expressed grief over the loss of lives and asked the authorities to identify those killed.

  1. every time a drone attacks, it also drop some booze and suitcases full of $$$ for the generals to buy more DHA plots and build more Fauji factories.

    • Fauji factories are not built from US aid in return of drone or arms deals .These are established from Pakistan's income but here top jobs are grabbed by those who make deadly deals for Pakistan.Same is for DHAs that is meant for Pakistanis but here big wigs of army took golden piece of lands toward their pockets and secure their generations through land grabbing on the name of unseen sacrifices.Yes these are sacrifices of their patriotism and nationalism for giving allowance to drones and US spys in the region with licensee to kill to any Pakistanis.

  2. The politics of drones is a dark chapter of our life. American Policy has clearly violated all norms of behavior and conduct during war These drone attacks have killea grea d more innocent people then any terrorists. It should discontinue such attacks as it is bringing bad name to America and sowing the seeds of hared against itself The drones are the mos abominable, attrocious, killing machine of modern times

America must halt such activiyies In t recent attack 17bpeople have been slain which is a a great tragedy The loss of life is highly condemned It is just counter prod uctive
No one at the pentagon has realized the severity of these attacks and the fall out of tese attacks Le us end these attrocities in goodtime and faitg

  3. Drones attacks only in those areas where writ of Pakistan Government is non-existent – the war-lords train attackers and suicide bombers who kills innocent people of main lands and our Jawans without discrimination – these mercenaries also attack inside Afghanistan and plan to bring damage to other parts of the world – am surprised at the comments of Mr.Javaid Bashif from USA – are you so ill informed that due to these drones attacks number of world-known terrorist have been killed to make this world a better and a safe place to live – Drone attacks are not-counter productive infact drones proved to be the most safest and smartest weapon in war-against-terror. These Drone attacks should not be stopped until all terrorist are killed and washed away – no matter what may be the collateral cost.

  4. when we can't confirm who got killed as these areas are under the controll of taliban…They could be taliban/al qaeda that are being hit.

  5. Wikileaks published cables describing how leaders of “sovergn” nations give the U.S. a “green light” to do whatever it wants. If you ever think for a second that Pakistan’s government dislikes drone strikes, you are very naive. This is how capitalism works! You have the appearance of having someone on your side when in fact it is the rulers of all countries who make backroom (and frontroom) deals that screw us all. From drones in SWA to the fiscal cliff, our rulers are against us. They have one goal to increase their share of stuff.
