Former chief of the Jamaat-e-Islami and veteran politician, Qazi Hussain Ahmed passed away late on Saturday night. He was a heart patient and had been admitted to a local hospital in Islamabad for treatment, a private TV channel reported. He served Jamaat-e-Islami as secretary and then Ameer of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He was elevated to the office of secretary general in 1978 and later got elected as the JI Ameer in 1987. He got re-elected as the JI chief four more times (1992, 1994, 1999, 2003). In 2008, he excused to be elected once more and the party then elected Syed Munawwar Hassan as the new chief.
