Multiple explosions rock city

Three explosions struck central locations in the city including a grenade attack on a police van and a remote-controlled bomb blast outside the office of a political party leader here on Saturday. According to police, a remote-controlled bomb containing 2-3 kilogram of explosives was planted outside the office of a political leader in Orangi. Three wheel carts were damaged but no casualties were reported.
Another bomb targeted a police van in Mawaach Goth area of Baldia town. According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) West Asif Ejaz Sheikh, a hand grenade was hurled at a police van that injured two personnel. He said the police arrested two accused possessing two hand grenades and two TT pistols after the blast. Earlier in the morning, unidentified miscreants hurled crackers at a medical store in Metroville area of SITE and fled from the scene. The crackers caused a blast that was also heard in far off areas. The blast completely destroyed a medical store and adjacent two shops and caused a minor crater at the site. The medical store belonged to a local leader of a political party and has been ambushed earlier as well. Police started investigation into the incident.
Seven arrested during raids

Police, moving in crackdown on the criminal elements on Saturday, arrested at least seven suspects from the city area of Mawachh Goth. A bomb hurled by the miscreants accidentally landed in a policeman Razzaq’s house that was severely damaged; however, no fatality ensued in the mishap. Receiving the report, as the police approached the mishap site, the criminals lobbed hand grenade on to their mobile van injuring two children living nearby. Infuriated over the brazen attack, police burst into break-door operation, rounding up anyone that came their way. The police action was interspersed with exchanges of gunfire. Police arrested at least seven miscreants in an operation that lasted for over an hour and seized three hand grenades, weapons and bullets in large number. The local people lauded the police feat and raised slogans in their support.
