CJ Iftikhar constitutes five benches to address backlogs

Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Sunday constituted five benches including a larger bench at the Supreme Court’s principal seat to pronounce verdicts on a number of important cases from January 7.
The Larger bench consists of CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, Justice Khilji Arif, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh Azmat Saeed. A special bench consists of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali,Justice Tariq Pervez, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan,Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh Azmat Saeed. The third bench consists of the CJ,Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh Azmat Saeed. The fourth bench consists of Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain. The fifth bench consists of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali,Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmany and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan.
The CJ also decreed that no application for adjournment of cases through fax would be entertained by the Court, adding that if the counsel is unable to appear for any reason, the advocate-on-Record would be required to argue the case. Moreover the court would not grant any adjournments on any ground whatsoever.
