Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had assured the chief of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) Dr Tahirul Qadri of full participation in his long march and had offered cash of Rs5 million to him during a recent meeting.
According to a report on Saturday, the Chaudhrys were hoping to stop the “common opponent” by joining hands with Dr Qadri, but all went wrong when their allies in the government, i.e. the PPP, took strong exception to this move. In fact, the report read the Chaudhrys were not expecting such a strong reaction from PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari and the federal cabinet over joining hands with Dr Qadri. Even the Chaudhrys were not aware of the resentment within their own party about their move.
According to sources, the biggest property tycoon of the country, who is a guarantor of the agreement between the PPP and PML-Q, also took strong exception over the Q-League’s joining hands with the TMQ chief and reprimanded Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, who was latter forced to arrange a press conference to announce that his party would not take part in the long march. According to sources, Elahi also came under severe criticism during a high-level party meeting during which the party leaders said he [Elahi] was damaging the party to settle personal scores. Sources said further Chaudhry Shujaat assured the party members during the meeting that in the future all such decisions would be taken with consensus.
