The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought comments from Sindh Education Department secretary and Thatta district education officer in petition seeking action against the alleged appointments of oriental teachers on political basis. The petitioners, Molvi Muhammad Ashraf Memon, and two others cited secretary education and Thatta district education officer as respondents. The petitioners submitted that they had applied for the post of oriental/Arabic/Islamic teacher (BPS-9) from district Thatta following the vacancy advertisement given by the provincial education department. The petitioners submitted that being qualified and having all the required certificates for the said post, they appeared in the assessment test undertaken for the post of oriental teacher. However, they added that they were still waiting for the announcement of the result and further interviews, but till date neither the results of the exams had been announced nor have they been called for any interview. The petitioners further stated that with the help of some reliable sources, they came to know that the posts of oriental teacher were being filled on political basis, adding that vacant posts in the Thatta district were 15, but only 40 teachers were appointed without them appearing for the exams. The petitioners prayed before the court to declare the action of respondents filling post of oriental teachers in Thatta on the political basis as illegal and pleaded before the bench to suspend the appointments of oriental teachers made on the basis of political connections. The division bench headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan issued notice to the respondents and put off the hearing of the case till January 22.
