The Punjab Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution condemning the proposed long march of Tehreek Minhajul Quran chief Dr Tahirul Qadri. The resolution was moved by Pakistan People’s Party member of the provincial assembly Shaukat Basra.
Earlier, the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaderships contacted each other in an attempt to counter Dr Qadri’s threat of a long march to Islamabad. According to sources, PPP leaders suggested a resolution be tabled in Punjab Assembly against Qadri to stop the impending long march on January 14. However, PML-N leadership sought some time to respond to PPP’s call for a collective movement to stop Qadri.
According to details, PPP Parliamentary Leader Zulfiqar Gondal contacted Provincial Minister Malik Nadeem in this regard and has also met with the speaker in his chamber.
Talking to journalists outside Punjab Assembly, Rana Sanaulla had said the PML-N would back such a resolution. However, PML-N has sought some time for consultation over the matter, he said.
