Hafeez, Nasir record opening stand for Pakistan in India

Mohammed Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed set up a new record for the opening wicket for Pakistan against India in India by adding 141 runs in the second match of the three-match series at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday (January 3).
It was Pakistan’s third best opening stand against India after 224-run stand between Mohammed Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed at Dhaka on March 18, 2012 and 144-run partnership between Aamer Sohail and Saeed Anwar at Singapore on April 5, 1996.
Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt’s 138 runs partnership at Kanpur on April 15, 2005 was the previous best opening stand for Pakistan against India in India.
Nasir became the eighth Pakistan batsman to hit three or more hundreds against India. The left-hand opening batsman’s third hundred (106) came in only fourth innings of as many matches. After making an unbeaten 53 in the first match at Karachi on July 2, 2008, Nasir went to score 112 in the second match in the Asia Cup at Dhaka on March 18, 2012. In the first match of the series at Chennai on December 30, 2012, he made an unbeaten 101 in Pakistani’s six-wicket victory.
Kamran Akmal received his maiden duck in 22 innings of 25 one-day internationals against India. Overall, it was his seventh duck in 123rd innings of 142nd one-day international match.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni equalled Nayan Mongia’s Indian record of most stumping against Pakistan by stumping Nasir off slow left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja. It was his seventh stumping in 28 one-day internationals against Pakistan. Mongia also affected same number of stumping in 29 matches against Pakistan.
Kamran became the 21st Pakistani and 92nd player overall to appear in 25 or more matches against India in one-dayers.
Pakistan defeated India by 85 runs to taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. It was India’s first series defeat at home in about four years. Australia was the last team to win a series against India in India. They beat India 4-2 in six-match series in November 2009. The seventh and final match of the series at Mumbai was abandoned with out a ball being bowled at Mumbai.
