Despite mounting crime, police performance review boasts of success

In the annual police performance review revealed on Wednesday, it was found that 1,483 accused of 519 gangs were arrested and over Rs 103 million was recovered from criminals.
According to details, it was revealed that 1,717 cases against wanted criminals were traced and over 8,177 proclaimed offenders (POs) were arrested.
It was further revealed that 8,982 cases registered against 4,994 accused for possession of illegal weapons and police recovered 33 Kalashnikovs, 162 rifles, 283 guns, 19 carbine, 4,269 revolvers, 89 daggers and 27,750 bullets from suspected criminals.
In a crackdown against drug dealers, 6,389 cases were registered and 6,556 suspects were arrested. At least 209 kilograms of heroine, 1,560 kilograms of hashish, 29 kilogram opium and 8,3755 bottles of liquor recovered from their possession.
In a special campaign, 1681 cases were registered against gamblers and 6,144 criminals were arrested in this regard.
The police also recovered an amount of Rs 8,800,000 from their possession.
DIG Operations Tahir Rai and SSP Operations Sohail Akhtar Sukhera lauded the efforts of police officials and said that they must continue to fight crime with devotion.
