A bomb explosion on Wednesday jolted the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Studies of the Peshawar University. Bomb Disposal Squad official Abdul Haq said the one-kilogramme timed device damaged Ibne Khaldun conference hall of the new academic block, shattering its doors and windows. Earlier, PU Police Station official Ihsanullah had said that the explosion may have been caused by the explosion of an AC compressor, but the bomb disposal experts later confirmed that it was a timed device. The official said nobody was hurt in the blast. No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing so far. “The university administration convened an emergency meeting and has also beefed up security on the campus while the entry and exit gates of the varsity are now also scanned. Outsiders are not allowed to enter without passes,” Akhtar Amin, media in-charge of the university said.
