The CDA has decided to launch an operation for the evacuation of the Afghan ‘kachi abaadi’ in Sector I-11 in the first week of January. Sources said the operation would be carried out in collaboration with the district administration and all homework in this regard had been completed by the CDA. In the first phase of its campaign, the CDA had collected particulars in respect of all houses and slum dwellers. In the second phase, dwellers were asked to evacuate the settlement voluntarily, and the operation to forcibly evacuate any remaining dwellers will be carried out as the third phase. The National Assembly Standing Committee on cabinet division had also set Jan 15 as the deadline to evacuate the kachi abaadi. The slum had become security risk due to criminal. Over 864 families and 8,000 people were housed in this settlement and the CDA might face an armed resistance from dwellers during the operation.
