The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday imposed a ban on the sale and purchase of Tyno cough syrup and issued a notice to the Punjab health secretary for January 16. During the course of the hearing, the petitioner alleged that the authorities had not taken any notice of the deaths caused due to the consumption of the syrup. He told the court that over 100 deaths had been caused in Lahore and Gujranwala because of the faulty medicine over a period of one month. The court, after hearing the arguments, imposed a ban on the sale and purchase of Tyno and issued a notice to the Punjab health secretary for January 16. The Punjab chief minister had issued directives to seize raw material used for the production of the medicine and sent samples of the syrup abroad for further analysis. Punjab Health Department had partially imposed a ban on Tyno. However its sale resumed after two weeks.
