‘Fines to be imposed on anti-tobacco law violators’

The district administration has decided to launch an anti-smoking awareness campaign in collaboration with the civil society, traders and educationists. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aamir Ali Ahmed said fines of Rs 1,000 to Rs 100,000 could be imposed on violators of the anti-tobacco law. The drive was launched with the support of traders and businessmen to strictly implement the law regarding smoking in public places. He added that all institutions had assured their support in this regard. The DC said the district administration had constituted anti-tobacco teams under the supervision of the assistant commissioner. He said the administration had issued directives to hotels and restaurants to ban sheesha smoking and to strictly follow the anti-tobacco law.
