Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Secretary General Dr Arif Alvi, President Javed Hashmi and Information secretary Shafqat Mahmood condemned the Cantt station blast on Saturday.
Through an official statement, the PTI senior hierarchy underscored that PTI condemns all acts of violence targeting innocent people and deplored killing of women and children by extremists in the incident. The statement added that PTI condemned all groups that were using violence as a tool to achieve their objectives. The party demanded an investigation into the incident and warned that if these acts of violence were ignored by the authorities, the menace would drag the country into an abyss. PTI urged the citizens too shun the culture of protecting and patronizing the groups spreading hatred and violence. The party pledged to strengthen the law enforcement mechanism if it would be voted into power, adding that a policy of instilling cordial relations between the masses of the country was a need of the hour. The statement read that “State’s capacity to manage policing and public prosecution in an effective way is a key issue. Political actors and the state are more interested in political mileage rather than curbing the killings. The dangerous upsurge of violence in recent months warrants urgent and effective measures before it turns into a full-blown conflict. It is time for us to face the reality and, instead of blaming others for our problems, admit that many of these problems stem from our government’s inaction”.
