Fog causes closure of airports, motorway

Dense fog descended over the provincial metropolis and other parts of Northern Punjab on Saturday, reducing visibility to zero and forcing closure of Allama Iqbal International Airport and the motorway.
According to reports, several flights were delayed and others diverted to Islamabad due to low visibility in Lahore.
A flight bringing Pakistan’s national hockey team home from Doha was diverted to Karachi and later flown back to Doha, leaving many fans waiting to welcome the players disappointed.
Cold weather accompanied by dense fog also caused several problems for travelers in Lahore, Faisalabad and areas around the motorway.
The northern half of the country remained chilly after a cold wave was followed by a day-long drizzle and snowfall over hills.
Forecasting more rain and snowfall over the next 24 hours, the Met Office said the current cold wave would persist for two more days in the country.
According to the Met Office‚ the temperature dropped to -13 centigrade in Kalat‚ -11 in Parachinar‚ -10 in Murree‚ -4 in Gupis and Hunza and -3 degree Celsius in Drosh‚ Skardu‚ Astore and Malamjaba.
Three feet of snowfall has so far been recorded in Murree. However, the Islamabad-Murree Motorway which was closed due to snowfall‚ was opened this morning.
