Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ahsan Rasheed on Wednesday said a large number of women and youth were expected to be elected in the intra-party elections of the party, adding that these elections would be one of a kind in the country’s history.
Addressing a joint meeting of three towns, he said that two booths each would be set up in every union council during the elections. A strategy for Gulberg, Samanabad and Cantonement was also finalised in the meeting.
The PTI leader further said the mission of party Chairman Imran Khan would be completed through these elections.
Now this shows that PTI strongly believes in empowerment of women and youth. If women can contest in PTI intra party elections, why cant women on reserved seats contest in general elections? Currently women on reserved seat are being "selected" on nomination lists, who are mostly relatives of party leaders or favorites of them. This does not bring true representation of women in parliament.
Just like in PTI intra-party elections, women are contesting in women-only seats. Similarly in general elections, women should contest in women-only reserved seats. That will bring genuine representation of women in parliament and stop favoritism.
