Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmud on Wednesday asked PML-N to end boycott of the commission formed for the creation of new provinces. Talking to journalists at the residence of Senator Malik Salahuddin (late) on Wednesday, he stressed on the importance of making the Seraiki and Bahawalpur province. He added that new provinces would strengthen the federation. “The Punjab Assembly has passed a resolution for a Seraiki province but has deliberately avoided one on the Bahawalpur province,” he said. “Only Lahore was being developed; the Seraiki belt was still the most backward region. The time has come to hand over the keys of the Southern Punjab gateway to us”, he said. He also clarified that governorship was a constitutional post and had nothing to do with any caretaker setup.
