KP govt to oppose Kalabagh Dam in CCI meeting

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued directives to the Inter-provincial Coordination secretary to prepare a case against construction of Kalabagh Dam. Sources said that the case would be presented in the upcoming meeting of Council of Common Interests (CCI). Advice from senior lawmakers and constitutional experts is also being sought in this context. The provincial governments of Balochistan and Sindh have also been contacted in this regard and the three provincial governments have decided to take up a similar stand on the issue in the CCI meeting, sources added. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and the provincial cabinet adopted the motion against the dam’s construction thrice in which it had been declared that the dam was a matter of life and death for the province. Moreover, three provincial governments are opposing the dam. The precedents of other democratic countries where such controversial decisions were taken in the past are also being collected.
