JI leader Prof Ghafoor passes away

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Professor Ghafoor Ahmed passed away at the age of 85 in Karachi on Wednesday. According to a JI spokesman, Ahmed had been ill for several months. He was born on 26 June 1927 in Barely, British India and earned master’s degree in commerce from Lucknow University in 1948. Ahmed later completed a course in industrial accounts and won the fellowship of Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan. He joined Jamaat-e-Islami in 1950 and held key positions. He served two political alliances of United Democratic Alliance and Pakistan National Alliance as general secretary.
