Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was vouching for the survival of the country and consolidation of the democratic system, but any delay in the upcoming general election was unacceptable to the party.
Talking to Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees leader Senator Sajid Mir, the chief minister said that holding the general elections was of utmost importance, adding that change should be brought by ballot, not bullet.
He further said that the socioeconomic and socio-political situation in the country had become so disappointing and crucial that new mandate had become necessary and inevitable.
The CM added that the politicians who used the authority and power for their personal interests would be put on trial very soon.
Shahbaz said the incompetent and directionless rulers had not taken practical steps to end terrorism, corruption, load shedding, unemployment and poverty. The country is passing through the worst phase of its history and the PPP-led coalition government has failed miserably on every front,” he said.
He underlined the need for pursuing consensus national policy by political leadership to relieve the country of its crisis. “The incompetent government maligned democracy in the name of reconciliation and the whole nation is eagerly awaiting the coming election,” he remarked. The CM hoped the nation would elect a new leadership imbued with the spirit of uprightness, commitment and integrity and one that is capable of addressing the problems facing the country. “The country will land in turmoil if no salve is put on the wounds of nation,” he warned.
“Doomsday is in sight for the rulers who have abused power to serve their personal interests,” he said.
Shahbaz said the Punjab government’s Metro Bus Project aimed at providing economical, speedy, state of the art and comfortable mode of transport to the citizens and was in the final stage of completion. “The fare will be kept within the reach of the common man and this project will bring about revolutionary changes in the transport sector,” he announced.
