Continuous fog blankets hinder travelers

Dense fog in parts of Punjab, for the third consecutive day, prompted the Motorway Police to suspend traffic from Lahore to Pindi Bhatian Interchange till Wednesday noon. National and international flights also remained affected at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport. Two flights for Karachi and Islamabad were cancelled while the Pakistan International Airline (PIA) asked people to confirm their flights before leaving their homes for the airport. PIA flight from Jeddah to Lahore was diverted to Kuwait due to the fog cover. According to details, PIA flight PK-760 flew from Jeddah at 4:00AM for Lahore but the plane had to land at Kuwait Airport as a result of bad weather and dense fog at Lahore. National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi along with his family was also on the flight. Lahore-Faisalabad Motorway was also closed for traffic. According to a Motorway Police Spokesman, Motorway-II was closed for traffic from Lahore to Pindi Bhatian while Motorway-III was closed from Pindi Bhatian to Faisalabad. The Motorway police have advised motorists to avoid traveling during fog and use GT Road if travel is unavoidable. Those motorists, who travel frequently in fog, should use fog lights and must keep a safe distance from other vehicles, advised the highway police. Visibility on the GT Road was also low due to thick fog.
