Wapda stay on top as Sindh a gold above Punjab

Wapda and Sindh retained their first and second positions with 48 and 11 gold medals respectively while Punjab showed its class by grabbing the third position with 10 golds at the end of the fourth day of the National Games here at the various venues of the city. Punjab overpowered Police 38-5 for gold medal in the rugby event with Sahir Riaz scoring two tries while Arslan Zahid and Tahir Rafi scored one try each for the winners. HEC team, comprising players from all the universities of the country, downed Balochistan for bronze medal. Punjab Rugby Association president Maj Gen (retd) M Ashraf was chief guest while PRU president Fawzi Khawaja, secretary Arif Saeed and other rugby officials were also present on the occasion.
Riffle shooting was the main event for Punjab in which they grabbed three gold medals. In 10m air pistol (women) individual event, Mishell Munir of Punjab scored 375 points to claim gold medal while Sadaf of HEC scored 313 to win silver and Aarooj of HEC scored 291 to get bronze. In double trap team event, Punjab also claimed gold medal by scoring 281 points while KPK scored 200 for silver and FRA 186 for bronze.
The individual men event was totally dominated by Punjab as the entire three medals went to them as Usman Chand scored 147 points for gold, Shah Alam 117 for silver and Nadeem 117 for bronze. In the 50m prone rifle (women) individual event, Urooj of Wapda scored 576 points to notch up gold medal, Ghazala of HEC scored 534 for silver and Misbah of Wapda 526 for bronze. The rapid fire pistol (men) team event gold medal went to Wapda team which scored 1503 points, silver to HEC with 1228 and bronze to FRA with 1172 scores. In the individual event, Zahid Ali of Wapda scored 514 points for gold medal, Col Javaid Umer of Wapda scored 504 for silver and Saqib Ikram of Wapda 501 for bronze.
In the weightlifting 69kg body weight class, Imran Ismalil of HEC scored 15 points to claim gold medal, Abu Sufian of Railway 10 points to grab silver and M Saleem of Punjab six points to win bronze. The 77kg body weight class gold medal went to M Irfan of Wapda with 15 points while Zohaib Manzore of Railway scored 10 points for silver and Ali Shan of HEC six for bronze.
In athletic event held here at Wapda Sports Complex, the Pole Vault (Women) gold medal went to Nasreen Akhtar of Wapda (2.55), silver to Ghazala Sattar of Wapda (2.5) and bronze to Saima Irum of Hec (1.43). The shot put women gold medal was won by Zeenat Parveen of Wapda (11.10), silver by Nazia Kausar of Wapda (10.02) and bronze by Abida of Railway (8.91). Altaf Hussain of HEC notched up gold medal in javelin throw men (65.55) while Irfan Hussain of Wapda bagged silver (65.33) and Alam Sadaam of HEC bronze (60.42). In the high jump women event, Nasreen Akhtar of Wapda claimed gold medal (1.44), Saima Sher of Wapda silver (1.40) and Saima Anum of HEC bronze (1.40).
In 800m men, Ali Mahmood of Wapda earned gold medal (1.55.56), Farhan Ahmad of Wapda silver (1.55.79) and M Akram of Punjab bronze (2.22.84) while the women 800m gold medal went to Rabia Aashaq of Wapda (2.35.34), silver to Smawiya of Wapda (2.36.44) and bronze to Farhat Batool of HEC (2.46.22). Wapda clinched gold medal in gymnastic event with 274.70 points, Railways secured silver with 244.60 points while Punjab earned bronze medal with 236.50 points. HEC scored fourth position, Police fifth and Sindh sixth.
In individual time trials men cycling event, Sabir covered the distance in 46:28:60 to grab gold medal while Miandad of Railways earned silver and Hafiz Tahir of HEC bronze. In women individual time trial event, Raheela Bano of Wapda completed the winning distance in 22:12:66 time to claim gold medal while Razia won silver and Fiza bronze. In road time trial team event men, Wapda covered the distance in 01:12:02 to win gold medal, HEC secured silver and Sindh bronze medal while in women team time trial event, gold medal went to Wapda which covered the distance in 21:28:17 time, silver went to HEC and bronze to Punjab.
In football league matches, Wapda beat Punjab by 2-1 with Arif Mehmood scoring two goals while Abdullah netted only goal for the losers. In the women league matches, Punjab outclassed KPK 3-0 with Zara Iqbal, Bushra and Izza scoring one goal each for the winners while in the second women match, Wapda beat HEC 2-1.
The table tennis event saw Wapda defeating Railways 3-2 to win gold medal while Punjab beat HEC to win bronze medal. In women event, Wapda overwhelmed Sindh 3-0 to earn gold medal while HEC edged out Punjab to cliam bronze medal. In the women Ju Jitsu event, the 50kg weight category gold medal was won by Zoya of Wapda, silver by Saba of Punjab and bronze by Emaan of Sindh. In the baseball women event, Islamabad outpaced Balochistan to secure gold medal while Sindh held Police and their match would be played again today (Wednesday). In baseball men event, Wapda defeated Police to win gold medal while Sindh outpaced Balochistan to win bronze medal. In the softball men, Police downed KPK to win gold medal while Sindh overpowered Punjab to win bronze medal.
In tennis doubles individual event, Wapda’s Aqeel and Yasir Khan thrashed Punjab’s Heera Ashiq and Khurram Nazir 6-2, 6-2 to win goal medal while HEC’s Saad Mubarak and Usman Ejaz defeated KPK’s Israr Gul and Shaheez for bronze medal. In individual event, Wapda’s Yasir Khan downed Aqeel Khan 7-5, 6-4 for gold medal while Punjab’s Heera Ashiq beat Ahmad Babar of same province 6-4, 6-4 for bronze medal.
