Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan has directed all police officials to take efficacious steps to control crime in the city and to adopt a professional as well as a responsible attitude to mitigate the sufferings of the people.
He stated this while addressing a meeting held to review the crime situation in the city and efforts put in by the Islamabad Police in ensuring foolproof security arrangements. The meeting was also attended among others by Deputy Inspector General (Headquarters) Sultan Azam Temuri, Islamabad Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Yaseen Farooq, all SPs, all Sub-Divisional Police Officers, Anti Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) in-charge, and Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) officials, as well as Station House Officers (SHOs).
The IGP ordered for strict patrolling and vigilance to ensure effective policing and directed the officials concerned to initiate a special crackdown against gambling dens and guest houses involved in immoral activities.
He further ordered the officials concerned to ensure arrest of proclaimed offenders and other criminals involved in crimes of heinous nature and whom were still at large.
He also directed the police officials for strict monitoring of those persons who had ever been imprisoned in cases of car lifting or involvement in other criminal activities.
The Islamabad IGP also directed all police officials, especially investigation officers, to complete investigation on pending cases within 14 days, saying that he himself would review the overall performance in this regard on January 15.
He categorically asked all police officials to focus on resolving public complaints and urged them to take every possible step to provide maximum relief to citizens. He further said that those police officials responsible for delaying the process of registration of cases and were carrying out half-hearted investigation would not be spared and strict disciplinary action would be taken against them. Furthermore, the IGP said that corrupt elements bringing a bad name to the department would be dealt with accordingly and urged all police officials to fulfill their responsibility with dedication. “Policing is a service oriented job and every police official must serve humans with devotion,” he maintained.
The IGP directed the police officials to improve “information and coordination system” among various police wings as well as police stations so to fight criminals in an organised and quick way. He also directed all SDPOs and SHOs to ensure elaborate security measures in their respective jurisdictions on the eve of Christmas celebrations.
Moreover, he also urged taking of welfare steps for policemen of low cadre especially those performing duties at police pickets during night.
The IGP checked the performance of each police station and expressed overall satisfaction over the efforts of Islamabad Police during 2012 to check incidents of terrorism, combat crime and control incidents of car theft. He said that further hard work and effective policing measures were imperative to curb the activities of anti-social elements. IGP Amin also urged the police officials to coordinate with members of vigilance committees and to enhance liaison with them in order to make renewed efforts to address public complaints on immediate basis. He also ordered the launching of a fresh survey in jurisdictions of all police stations with the purpose to get first hand information about the tenants or others residing in various areas or new localities of the city.
