Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood took oath as new Punjab governor here on Tuesday.
Chief Justice Lahore High Court Umer Atta Bandiyal administered oath from in a simple but dignified ceremony.
Makhdoom, resigned as the PML-Functional Punjab president after he was offered the post by President Asif Zardari on Thursday.
He is from the southern Punjab district of Rahim Yar Khan and was elected to the Punjab Assembly in previous general elections.
Soon after, PML-F chief Pir Pagara disassociated himself and his party with the development and said the decision to accept the offer was of Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmod himself.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, President Peoples Party Punjab Mian Manzoor Ahmad Watto, provincial Ministers, provincial Assembly speaker and others attended the ceremony.
