Former Prime Minister (PM) Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has finally decided to file review petition in Supreme Court against his disqualification verdict.
The former PM had decided to file appeal plea seeking review of disqualification decision after consultation with legal experts and party senior leadership, media reports say.
Sources said President Asif Ali Zardari was highly keen to active participation by Gilani in party election campaign particularly in South Punjab in upcoming general elections.
On the other hand Faisal Chaudhry counsel for Gilani was of the view that his client’s position stands highly fortified following the dispatch of letter to Swiss Authorities against President Asif Ali Zardari and he with the consent of Gilani would file petition seeking review of SC June 19 decision.
Faisal Chaudhry was of opinion that the review petition would be filed on the model of the petition filed by Nawaz Sharif in plane hijacking case.
Close sources said the matter of filing review petition in respect of Gilani would be presented in PPP Executive Committee meeting taking place in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on December, 27 for further discussion.
Legal experts said every citizen has right to file review petition but it should have been filed within the 30 days of the pronouncement of decision. There is likelihood that Gilani’s review petition is rejected due to lapse of period prescribed for filing such application. On the other hand a major reference is available in this regard that Nawaz Sharif had filed the review petition after 9 years.
