Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (r) Fakhruddin G Ibrahim and exchange views on holding free and fair elections and the formation of a caretaker set-up. Sources close to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said the ‘secret’ meeting took place at the Islamabad Club, which continued for an hour. The two exchanged views on the constitutional role of the CEC, verification of the voter lists in Karachi and delimitation of constituencies in the light of the Supreme Court’s direction. Sources said further Nisar had certain reservations about registration of voters in his constituency. On the other hand, the CEC told him that voter lists have been made transparent and mistakes, if any, were being removed immediately. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is keen to bring all the administrative machinery under its control to ensure free and fair elections. Meanwhile, it is understood that members of the ruling parties at the Centre and in Punjab are against holding of early elections.

  1. EC has restricted budget for candidates to 15 Lac and 10 Lac for national and provincial elections. Now Nisar demands to increase this budget to 60 Lac and 40 Lac, respectively. Now you can see how wealthy these PMLN politicians/workers are, who can spend such big amount in elections. After getting elected, these corrupt politician not only recover the amount but also double tripple their wealth. Now people must see the real faces of these corrupt politicians. People must get rid of them and elect new, capable and honest leadership in upcoming election.
