Iftikhar Arif for political vision to promote Urdu

Renowned Urdu poet Iftikhar Arif has underlined the need of a definite political vision for the promotion and growth of national language in the country.
Speaking at the Ethics and Culture Hour, organised by the Centre of Biomedical Ethics and Culture (CBEC) of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) on Saturday evening, he also regretted steady deterioration in the standard of education.
“This is causing a great damage to Urdu language”, said Iftkhar Arif, a well known literary figure.
Iftikhar Arif was equally concerned about the use of improper and poor quality of language in the media.
The poet, who is the former chairman of National Language Authority and Academy of Letters, stressed the need to support all the Pakistani languages.
“All our languages must be given rightful place for national activity,” said Iftikhar Arif.
He said at the same time, the importance of English language in our economic and political activity cannot be underestimated.
Later, Arif recited his selected poetry before a packed audience comprising people from different walks of life.
