Shopping for Christmas reached its peak on Sunday evening as thousands of families thronged the city’s bazaars for last-minute purchasing. Despite the biting cold, families shopping for Christmas were seen at shopping centres in Anarkali, Ichhra, Rang Mehal, The Mall, Gulberg, Defence, Model Town, Saddar Bazaar and other spots buying clothes, shoes and other articles. “Every year we plan to complete our shopping well ahead of Christmas, but we always end up buying stuff at the last minute,” said Michael Munawer, a banker. “Women are best in haggling with shopkeepers and they never seem content with what men buy at a given price,” said Vicky, a shopkeeper. Christmas preparations usually reach their climax at midnight on December 24. Christmas celebrations start with the midnight service at churches that are tastefully illuminated and decorated with Christmas trees and bells.
