Latif Khosa submits to Zardari’s decision, resigns

Punjab governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa has submitted his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari, which has been duly accepted.
Khosa called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House in Karachi on Saturday. He arrived without the governor’s protocol.
During the meeting‚ both leaders discussed the ongoing political situation in Punjab and the future strategy for the province. According to reports, Khosa submitted his resignation to the president, who accepted it.
President Zardari praised the services of Khosa as the Punjab governor during the meeting, which was also attended by Law Minister Farooq H Naik.
Later, Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood, the expected new governor of Punjab, also called on the president at Bilawal house. The president had summoned Mahmood at Bilawal House to discuss issues regarding the governor’s role.
Sources said the PPP’s defeat in the recent by-polls in Punjab had irked the party leadership enough to take the decision.
Former PM Yousaf Raza Gilani had reportedly briefed Zardari about the PML-N’s victory in the by-polls. The sources said Gilani held PPP’s lacklustre campaign responsible for the rival party’s victory.
They added that in addition to appointing Mahmood as the new Punjab governor on Gilani’s recommendation, the president also decided to make the former PM responsible for the PPP’s campaign for upcoming election.
