UN, Pakistan launch second five-year plan

Pakistan and the United Nations have launched a new five year programme to cooperate in different areas including economy, food and other social sectors. The documents of the programme, “One UN Programme (2013-17)” were signed by Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Secretary Javed Iqbal, UN Resident Coordinator Timo Pakkala and the representatives of UN agencies in Pakistan.
The new five year programme is based on the findings of Framework for Economic Growth (FEG) and will support provincial and regional development plans. Consistent with the spirit of the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the programme is based on consultations with the provincial, regional and federal counterparts of the UN. “Pakistan is one of the founding members of the United Nation’s ‘Delivering as One’ programme, which led to the establishment of the first ‘One UN Programme (2009-12)’,” said Javed Iqbal. UN Resident Coordinator Timo Pakkala said that through the next ‘One UN Programme’, the UN wishes to continue its support for the social and economic uplift of Pakistan.
