Ijazul Hassan’s exhibition begins

A solo art exhibition by Ijazul Hassan took-off on Friday evening at the Lahore Art Gallery. A large number of people attended the opening ceremony. The exhibition includes a total of 39 paintings, all oil on canvas but in diverse scales. The exhibition will remain open till January 19. In excusive talk with Pakistan Today, artist Ijaz-ul-Hassan said that his inspiration was his surroundings. He said that he tried to depict bitter realities of life. He further said that he had seen four martial laws in his life and had been arrested and jailed each time. He said that one of his paintings depicted a man looking at the world from behind bars, aching to break out of imprisonment. He added that whenever a young artist asked him for advice, he always stressed on one lesson; experiences in an individual’s life. He said that personal experiences could sometimes be the best source of inspiration. Professor Dr Aurangzeb Alamgir of Punjab University said, “I have known Ijaz from 1976 and his paintings are inspirational.”
