United Producers Association (UPA) – a group representing the rights of local drama industry- has objected to the airing of foreign content on local TV channels despite increasing popularity of these dramas among the audience saying these dramas promote vulgarity, Express Tribune reported.
The airing of the foreign content is hurting the already ailing domestic drama industry and the producers despite focusing their attention on the production of quality dramas are dubbing the foreign content obscene while alleging Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) censorship laws of holding a double standard in favor of the foreign content.
Foreign drams including Indian, Mexican and Turkish are being aired in Pakistan on different TV channels some of which like ‘Ishq-e-Mamnoon’ are very popular among the Pakistani drama lovers.
