Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has warned of civil strife in case the government tried to rig the elections.
Addressing a press conference at Model Town and later talking to media persons at Johar Town Sports Complex here on Friday, the chief minister said timely elections were necessary for security and integrity of the country emphasizing that timely elections would strengthen Pakistan and democracy.
The Punjab chief minister said PML-N was not running away from elections and would emerge as victorious in the elections. He said time has not yet come for the setting up of caretaker government. He pointed out that the caretaker prime minister and chief ministers would take over at the end of the tenure of the assemblies.
Shahbaz Sharif expressed hope that the Establishment would not interfere in the coming elections.
He announced to give proprietary rights to 2.2 million residents of Kachi Abadis in Punjab by 31st December. He said these rights would be given jointly to husband and wife and the property would not be resalable. He also promised to launch Ashiyana Housing Scheme across Punjab if an opportunity was once again given to the PML-N.
He said land in rural areas would be given at Rs70 per marla and in cities at Rs550 per marla. He said such a massive project had not been launched in the past for Katchi Abadis.
The chief minister said it was the mission of Punjab government to serve the masses by providing them maximum facilities.
Shahbaz emphatically declared that all the development projects in Punjab were transparent and there was not a single rupee corruption.
