Pakistan Youth Hostels Association (PYHA) will construct hostels for working women in the federal capital and the four provincial capitals to meet growing demands of females who travel long distances to reach their workplaces.
“We are looking for a proper land to undertake the project as soon as possible,” PYHA Vice Chairman Dr Anwar H. Siddiqui said while speaking at a ceremony held here on Wednesday.
A committee of educationists was also being set up to provide necessary support in this regard, he added.
Dr Anwar and PYHA Secretary Afzaal Hussain Agha presented a cheque of Rs 380,000 to the Federal Government Degree College for Women I-8/3 Principal Hamida Qais to be paid as affiliation fee for the college’s registration with Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU). Federal Directorate of Education Director General Dr Shahnaaz A. Riaz was also present on the occasion.
Due to lack of budgetary provision, the college was unable to pay the affiliation fee to QAU, said the principal of the women college, adding that she was grateful to the PYHA for their donation.
She said that since its establishment three years back, the college had been working without a budget, a regular working staff and necessary auditorium, adding that the college management had previously sent their demand to the Ministry of Finance, but no action had yet been taken due to some procedural hurdles.
It is pertinent to mention here that more than 700 students of the college were facing hardships due to the lack of basic infrastructure facilities and some other basic academic support. The PYHA assured that they would also provide furniture to the college to set up a modern computer lab.
The PYHA Vice Chairman said that the PYHA attached high importance to the welfare of the students and wished to help them by providing a better educational environment to them.
