People in the city are facing problems due to the mushroom growth of illegal bus, wagon and Suzuki van stands in most areas of the garrison city and demanded the removal of these terminals at the earliest.
The existence of bus and truck stands alongside the highways and other major roads inside the city were a common sight, but now wagons and Suzuki van owners had also set up illegal terminals throughout the city. Such illegal stands covering a large area had particularly sprung up in the vicinities of Asghar Mall Chowk, Banni Chowk, Pindora Chungi, Kohati Bazaar Chowk, Commercial Market, Haji Chowk Sadiqabad, Glass Factory Chowk, Ghaznavi Market, Delhi Dawakhana Ghaznavi Chowk, General Hospital, Committee Chowk, and Holy Family Hospital Road.
“We have to wait for hours to cross the Committee Chowk due to continuous to and fro flow of traffic from illegally set up wagon terminals around the intersection and the road. Due to this we cannot reach our offices in time,” said Ghulam Qadir, a government employee.
“We cannot cross the road easily to reach our educational institutions and we often get late for our classes. We not only face snubbing from our teachers but also have to suffer a major loss in terms of studies due to the rush of traffic. Wagon stands are functioning alongside the roads and after every minute a wagon zooms past us, thus putting our lives in danger,” said a group of students while waiting to cross the road at Banni Chowk.
“We are not only facing the traffic jams but also have to bear the brunt of filthy remarks from the drivers seated in the wagons,” said a lady health visitor while standing at one of the illegally erected wagon stand in the area of Pandora Chungi.
People have demanded of the authorities concerned to take strict action against the illegal bus and wagon stands to save the general public especially women from traffic jams and insulting remarks of the drivers.
