The United States (US) Consul General Nina Fite inaugurated a consultative workshop to foster cooperation between stakeholders and to strengthen the education sector in the Punjab. The United States Agency of International Development (USAID) Provincial Director Jeffrey Bakken also spoke on the occasion. Participants of the workshop organized by the USAID included civil society groups, non-governmental and private sector organizations, donors, and existing and prospective USAID partners.
“The American people and the US government are committed to ensure that Pakistan’s children have access to a quality basic education, as well as opportunities for acquiring higher education,” said Fite. She applauded the efforts of the workshop participants for their commitment in enhancing the level of education for the children of Punjab. “This workshop is an opportunity to bring together all of your knowledge and experience on education in Pakistan, to work together to provide even more Pakistani children with quality education, the chance at a bright future, and the Roshan Pakistan that they deserve,” she added. Pakistan and the US have enjoyed close cooperation in the education sector for over 50 years. This education initiative was yet another expression of the US government’s long-term commitment to the Pakistani people. This partnership between both the countries would continue to foster cooperation between the civil society, the government, the private sector, and other key stakeholders.
