The Supreme Court (SC) issued notices to Secretary Establishment Division, Secretary Finance and Raja Azeem-ul-Haque—the son-in-law of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
According to a private televsiin channel, a three-member SC’s bench headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard a suo motu notice case against the PM’s son-in-law over his nomination as an executive director of the World Bank.
It is pertinent to note here that the court took suo motu notice over a newspaper report regarding Raja Azeem who was appointed to the post by the PM exercising his discretionary powers.
The apex court ourt on Monday took suo motu notice of the nomination of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf’s son-in-law, Raja Azeem-ul-Haque, as an executive director of the World Bank.
It is worthy of note that the finance ministry opposed Mr Haque’s nomination even though the summary for his appointment was moved by the Economic Affairs Division. However, the Prime Minister Secretariat gave a go-ahead to the nomination.
Mr. Haque was elevated from grade 18 to 21 within a few years.
Raja Azeem was as an officer of the Income Tax Group in grade 18 when the PPP government came into power more than four years ago. He quit this job; however later was hired in the Employees Old-age Benefit Institution in grade 20 about two years ago.
Mr. Haque was raised to grade 21 as an officer at the PM Secretariat soon after his father-in-law stepped into the PM House as premier.
The bench separated the petition over illegal appointments in EOBI and adjourned the hearing till the second week in January.
