The Supreme Court Wednesday expressed annoyance over authorities’ failure to arrest former chairman of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) in a scam case and ordered to arrest and present Tauqir Sadiq before court till 26th December.
A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawad S Khawaja heard the OGRA scam case pertaining to orders for Tauqir Sadiq’s arrest where the judges expressed annoyance over Police failure to arrest the former OGRA chairman.
Inspector General Punjab Police Haji Mohammad Habib ur Rehman and National Highways & Motorway Police Inspector General Zafar Abbas Lak appeared before the bench for the hearing in the case regarding the authorities’ failure to arrest former chairman of Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Tauqir Sadiq.
During the hearing, Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked “The crisis of CNG occurred due to the corruption of Tauqir Sadiq and if anti terrorist cell of police can not arrest Tauqir Sadiq then how would it arrest the terrorists”.
“NAB is of the view that IG’s of Punjab Police and National Highways & Motorway Police are not cooperating in apprehending the former OGRA chairman”, Justice Jawad S Khawaja stated.
Responding to which, IG Punjab Police Haji Habib ur Rehman rejected the allegation of investigative officer of NAB stated that it is not correct that Punjab Police has not cooperated with NAB.
“We formed a team headed by CCPO Lahore in order to arrest Tauqeer Sadiq”, the IG Punjab Police told SC.
Then the SC ordered authorities’ to arrest and present Tauqir Sadiq before court till 26th December.
Earlier, on Dec 11, The SC had directed Inspector General Punjab Police along with Inspector General National Highways & Motorway Police to submit a report in the case pertaining to the orders for the arrest of former OGRA chairman.
