KBA postpones annual dinner for CJP

In the wake of recent protests by MQM against the chief justice of Pakistan, Karachi Bar Association has postponed annual dinner in the honour of Iftikhar Chuadhry, media reported on Tuesday.
Media quoting Karachi Bar Association President Mehmood-ul-Hassan and Secretary Khalid Mumtaz said that due to current tense situation in the city and the bar election to be held today (Wednesday) it was not possible to arrange the annual dinner.
The chief Justice was scheduled to address the lawyers at annual dinner on December 22 however; the bar president and secretary said new suitable date for the event would be announced later. They said the event was not cancelled but it was delayed due to busy schedule of lawyers and tense situation in the city.
The 66th annual elections of the Karachi Bar Association were postponed due to the law and order situation in the city last week.
Protests were erupted in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and other cities in Sindh after the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued a contempt notice to Altaf Hussain for making disparaging remarks against the judiciary while addressing different rallies on telephone from London recently.
The court ordered Hussain to be present in court for the hearing on January 7.
In a matter of hours, markets and others facilities were closed down in many areas of Karachi and several other cities of the province.
