Former Sindh member provincial assembly (MPA) Zafar Iqbal Bilal has filed a civil suit of Rs 50 million damages for defamation and harassment against his son-in-law Fahad Rasool and his father Javid Iqbal. The SHC’s single bench of Justice Munib Akhtar heard arguments over the civil suit and adjourned further proceedings till 23rd. Zafar Iqbal submitted that his son-in-law Fahad Rasool and his father Javid Iqbal were harassing him for a long time. Javid Iqbal wrote several letters and sent mobile messages to various authorities including President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP (women wing) President Nafeesa Shah and many others, he said. He further submitted that Nafessa Shah showed him a text message sent to her by Javid Iqbal wherein he spread disinformation and leveled baseless allegations against him. “Being a former MPA, well known politician, landlord and businessman, my reputation and career have been badly damaged due to baseless propaganda against me”, Zafar Iqbal claimed in the suit. He further said: “The plaintiff is a corrupt, terrorist and has been involved in criminal activities.” Zafar Iqbal prayed the court to take legal action against the defendants and order them to pay defamation of Rs 50 million to the plaintiff. However, the court issued stay order and restrained the defendant from harassing the applicant till further orders.
