Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Monday dismissed petitions challenging re-appointment of Dr Mujahid Kamran as vice chancellor of Punjab University. The single bench comprising the chief justice was hearing identical petitions filed by Chaudhry Nazir and others. Earlier, a provincial law officer informed the court that law had been amended and the retirement age for vice chancellor had been increased to 65 years. He pleaded the court to dismiss the petitions. The petitioners’ counsel Aftab Ahmad Bajwa opposed the contention, saying that the law had been amended while the petitions were being heard. He pleaded the court to take notice and strike down the amendment as it was malafide. However, the court after hearing the arguments dismissed the petitions observing that they had become infructuous.
